Great Initiative by Heritage Foundation

Heritage Foundation is organizing workshops and creating community service opportunities for the youth of Karachi. Their program is commendable and we encourage maximum participation. This is our city, and we need to own it!

The Plan: Volunteers to help clean external facade of Denso Hall and heritage buildings facing Marriott Road.

Each Saturday 12 students from a university will be sent where along with the foundation, students would be required to do what they can to bring the buildings towards a better state of condition. This will require, painting, Photography, cleaning, rearranging, gardening etc.

This program is only for Saturday’s for student convenience. And on completion of 20 hours of community service (during 4 to 5 visits) participants will be awarded certificates of acknowledgment. This could be a great plus on your resume!

Ajmal Hussain - Retrospective and new Paintings

Goethe-Institut Pakistan presents Ajmal Hussain “Retrospective and new paintings”

Ajmal Husain (also known as “The Man of Many Arts”) was the first Pakistani artist to show his work in Germany in 1952. Since then over 100 of his exhibitions were shown all around the world.

His latest series of painting is described as “Fusion”. In this series he has used seven different mediums. The composition of the paintings is a mixture of geometric forms, abstract symbolism dominated by figurative forms.

At the age of 80, Ajmal Hussain maintains the spirit of the classical easel painting in its truest form and practices it with conviction.

This is his first solo exhibition in Pakistan after 1986.

BEING THERE…… FINALLY!
The moment (actually months ago) Noorjehan Bilgrami invited me to curate an exhibition of sculpture at KOEL Gallery; I started to think and visualize the show. The exhibition was taking its time in the imagination so I kept on delaying the project till I couldn't do more as the date of the show was approaching.
I thought a lot about it - what I really wanted to do for this show. Shall I just look at artists who make objects or should it be an exhibition of those I find exciting. I stayed with the later idea. This show certainly does not include all what is interesting as there is so much that intrigues, but few of my favourite artists, whose work provides me something to think about from it's formal to conceptual aspects, are selected. Initially I thought that the exhibition has to be politically correct and must have a gender balance but the final list is completely politically incorrect and includes work of eight women artists only……….but I say to myself so what!.
‘Being There’ shows work which negotiates between being an object or remaining flat; which instigates a thought process and then appears very direct; and which questions and provokes discussions about art and life, since two can not be separated.

(Designers United for a Cause – Karachi) and Rebuild-Rebound are non-profit organizations initiated by a handful of Indus Valley Alumni who are bringing together designers, photographers, sculptors and visual artists to exhibit their work, create awareness and raise funds for humanitarian causes.

To Karachi With Love is one of a series of events aimed to raise awareness about the loss of lives and destruction that followed the suicide blast on Ashura at Bolton Market in Karachi. All funds collected will go to the rebuilding of the market and surrounding area.

100% of the proceeds will go towards renowned architect, Shahid Abdullah’s efforts to reconstruct the affected area and to the shopkeepers whose livelihoods have been put on hold for the past three months and still await the end of the reconstruction. Their lives may never be the same again but we can help be a part of the change.

The change can begin from your heart. Show Karachi some LOVE!

Tae Kwon Do Korean martial art is a combimation of mind and body.

It is an Olympic Game and a fully disciplined sport.

Classes are supervised by international fame Grand Master M. Najam Khan, 8 Dan, Black Belt, member of the World Tae Kwon Do Federation .

Master Khan has been teaching Tae Kwon Do at Alliance Française de Karachi for the last 38 years.

Uptil now, about 20 000 students have completed their training with about 200 black belts qualified as Tae Kwon Do instructors and players.

Classes for 3 year-old children include physical fitness, mind and body coordination, exercises and self defence.

Learning outcome:

By the end of this course you should be able to understand the difference between the terms style and iconography; Define the visual elements of line shape and mass; Describe the differences between western and non western approaches to space; Describe the different methods of creating photographs; Explain the materials and techniques used to create sculpture; Know the definitions of and functions of critics, art galleries, collectors, patrons, and museums. These are just a few learning outcomes that are aimed at during this course.
